COLD Studio is expanding into new studio space and new space calls for new goods. Corban has been upcycling furniture from Craigslist to fill the new studio. The metal A-frames and desk were bought for cheap and brought back to life with some sanding, primer and spray paint. Corban and his work will soon be located in Midtown, Atlanta. Corban Lundborg links up with the BRCC crew to share the story behind his MRE coffee art series that he painted in East Africa. While deployed to East Africa, Corban sought to create a unique illustration series inspired by his time in the region. Looking around the combat camera office he noticed an old box of Meal, Ready to Eat (military field meals). While digging through the box he found old instant coffee and mixed it up using the supplies in the pack. Corban started experimenting with how the coffee took to paper and ink. After some time he came up with a series of MRE illustrations inspired by his time in uniform. He self-produced video documentation of the collection that can be viewed above. For more information and possible collaboration please reach out to COLD Studio directly.
MICRO is an ongoing ink collection that began during a deployment to East Africa. Corban received a pack of Micron pens in a care package and started inking thousands of small lines and dots to create one-of-a-kind characters and illustrations. MICRO illustrations are a form of freestyle drawing where Corban doesn't have an end vision in mind when he begins. Each piece comes together as he progresses. This process helps Corban clear his mind during times of stress. To learn more about availability and sales please contact COLD Studio directly.
War Letters is an art series Corban created to try his hand at painting military inspired art. Early on Corban preferred to keep his military and his creative life separate. Through time and experience he finally felt ready to explore the military ranks with paint. Corban set out to explore the history, tradition and honor that belongs to military heritage through this collection. Using saturation, he created a contrast between the earth tones associated with military and the human element often overlooked when peering into the world of war. For more information and possible collaboration please reach out to COLD Studio directly.
VINYL was a five-part series created for Gabba Galleries "Crate Digger" show in Los Angeles. The showing featured music inspired art on 12" by 12" panels to pay tribute to vinyl art. Corban wanted to create visuals that pulled from vinyl era classic rock and mash it up with modern hip hop icons. The light hearted series was a fun way to incorporate vinyl, painting and nostalgia. Crate Digger II, curated by Jason Ostro of Gabba Gallery took place 26 August, 2017. Part of the painting collection has been purchased but COLD Studio is open to further VINYL questions or collaborations.
Bagged is a five-part oil painting series created to raise awareness for plastic bag bans happening around the world. Corban spent a few months living abroad in Africa and was surprised by the amount of plastic waste littering the countryside, ocean fronts and city streets. Bagged is an expression of his experiences. To learn more about availability and sales please contact COLD Studio directly.
While living abroad in Cape Town, South Africa Corban was limited on space and art supplies but was able to find an art store selling the basics. Corban bought a tube of black watercolor paint and a pad of paper. Pulling from the Bible for inspiration he created a series of eight flash sheets for his own personal tattoo references. Corban titled the piece Greywater and plans to slowly keep building the collection. The illustrations traveled with him through his continued Africa adventure after Cape Town to Ethiopia and Tanzania. This collection is now set aside at COLD Studio for future tattoo reference.
